Spring Street Sweeping Season

Spring has arrived in East Lyme, and that means our annual Town wide street sweeping is underway as of Friday, March 27. With 118 miles of road, and the need to sweep up and down both sides — often more than once — our team ends up covering well over 250 miles in total.

Because the sweeper moves at 6–8 mph, and our crew must balance breakdowns, weather, and other essential Town duties, the full sweeping program takes many months to complete. We truly appreciate everyone’s patience while we work steadily through all neighborhoods.

We will provide updates as often as practical, and we kindly ask that residents please refrain from calling to request specific dates, as the schedule can shift due to conditions and crew availability.

How You Can Help Us

Please avoid placing anything in the roadway including grass clippings, leaves, and yard debris. Our sweeper is designed for sand and small material — it cannot collect piles of leaves or grass. Yard waste in the road can clog equipment and slow the entire process.

Please dispose of your spring cleanup materials properly at the Town Transfer Station NOT in your Trash barrels. These will not be collected by the Garbage Truck. The Transfer Station is the correct (and only) place for disposal of yard waste.

Thank you for helping us keep roadways clean and safe for everyone.
