IMPORTANT INFO YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR THE LIGHT PARADE

On Saturday, December 14, 2024, the 36th annual Niantic Light Parade will once again travel through our beautiful downtown spreading holiday cheer! The parade will start at 6:00PM at the corner of Columbus Avenue and proceed down Main Street (Route 156) to Pennsylvania Avenue (Route 161), ending on Grand Street. The rain/snow date will be Sunday, December 15, 2024 at 5:00PM and all times noted below will roll back one hour!

ROAD CLOSURES & PARKING BANS (SEE “TRAFFIC PATTERN” MAPS BELOW):

• Main Street will be closed to vehicular traffic at 5:00PM from the intersection at Black Point Road to the intersection of Main Street and Pennsylvania Avenue to Grand Street.
• Columbus Ave. and Haigh Ave. will be closed to all except Columbus Ave. residents at 4:00PM
• There will be no parking allowed along the parade route beginning at approximately 4:30PM
• All traffic will be detoured north onto East Pattagansett Road, and then east onto Hope Street back to Pennsylvania Avenue (Route 161) North.

The parade will last approximately 2 hours. At the conclusion of the event, the roadway will reopen and East Lyme Police along with mutual aid partners from local police departments will direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic to their destinations. IMPORTANT NOTE!! East Pattagansett Rd northbound (heading toward Flanders) will be CLOSED following the parade. Please plan to exit the downtown area via Route 161 (Pennsylvania Avenue) or Route 156 (West Main / Main Street). This traffic pattern helps to facilitate a better flow for spectators exiting the area.

Our police officers and mutual aid partners are well seasoned in the art of a mass exodus from this event, but we ask that you please pack your patience when you come downtown as thousands of spectators come each year to enjoy this holiday spectacular.

PARKING FOR THE LIGHT PARADE:

Public parking is available at the Municipal parking lot on Hope Street, Town Hall on Pennsylvania Avenue, Cini Park on Main Street (under the bridge), Methodist Street, Niantic Center School on West Main Street.

** IMPORTANT NOTE: Hole in the Wall parking lot off of Main Street is not blocked off from the public; however, if you do not remove your vehicle from the lot by 4:30PM on parade day, you will be stuck in the lot until Main Street re-opens!

**No public parking at McCook Point Park as this will be the assembly area for parade participants.

Come down early and enjoy our beautiful town! There are lots of great places to eat and do some holiday shopping!
