On Saturday, December 10, 2022, the 34th annual Niantic Light Parade will once again travel through our beautiful downtown spreading holiday cheer! The parade will start at 6:00 p.m. at the corner of Columbus Avenue and proceed down Main Street (Route 156) to Pennsylvania Avenue (Route 161), ending on Grand Street.
ROAD CLOSURES & PARKING BANS (SEE “TRAFFIC PATTERN” MAP below):
- Main Street will be closed to vehicular traffic at 4:00 p.m. from the intersection at Black Point Road to the intersection of Main Street and Pennsylvania Avenue to Grand Street.
- Columbus Avenue and Haigh Avenue will be closed to all but residential traffic at 4:00 p.m.
- There will be no parking allowed along the parade route beginning at approximately 3:30 p.m.
- All traffic will be detoured north onto East Pattagansett Road, and then east onto Hope Street back to route 161 north.
The parade will last approximately 2 hours. At the conclusion of the event, the roadway will reopen and East Lyme Police along with mutual aid partners from local police departments will direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic to their destinations. IMPORTANT NOTE!! TRAFFIC PATTERN CHANGE FOR 2021 FOR VEHICLES EXITING THE DOWNTOWN AREA (SEE “EXIT” MAP below): East Pattagansett Road will be CLOSED following the parade. Please plan to exit the downtown area via Route 161 (Pennsylvania Avenue) or Route 156 (West Main / Main Street). This new traffic pattern will help facilitate a better flow for spectators exiting the area.
Our police officers and mutual aid partners are well seasoned in the art of a mass exodus from this event, but we ask that you please pack your patience when you come downtown as thousands of spectators come each year to enjoy this holiday spectacular.
