EAST LYME WATER DEPARTMENT MESSAGE
January 3rd, 2024
The Environmental Protection Agency has recently started requiring public water utilities to test for per and polyfluoroalkyl substances, more commonly known as PFAS. The East Lyme Water Department started testing its wells in December for these substances and just received back the laboratory data. The testing results confirm that while East Lyme public water is in full compliance with all State and EPA guidelines, there were trace amounts of PFAS detected in two well site locations. The following letter describes in detail the results of these tests, what they mean to you, and the next steps the East Lyme Water Department intends to take.
