Main Street & West Main Street (Route 156) Paving Starting 9/16/18

Message from the EL Public Works Department on DOT Paving of RT 156

The CT DOT will begin repaving Rt 156 in East Lyme from the Niantic River Bridge to the Rocky Neck Connector.  The section of Rt. 156 from the Niantic River Bridge to around Park Place (near East Coast Taco) will be done at night between the hours of 7pm- 6am.  They plan on milling that section starting this Sunday night 9/16 at 7pm.  The first night they will probably get to around the Morton House.  The night milling will probably go all week thru Thursday night.  After this, the road will have grooved pavement and raised structures until the contractor comes back to start paving around Sunday October 1st.  The same area that was milled between Niantic River Bridge and Park Place will also be paved at night during the same hours as identified above.  The rest of the section will receive a 2” overlay during day hours of 7am – 5pm.  When this paving project commences, the travelling public should expect delays.  There will be no on street parking on Main St. and West Main Street during the times that they are planning on working (i.e. No Parking on Main Street in Niantic during the periods of 7pm – 6am on the nights that they will be in that area).  If there are any changes to the DOT’s plans, the Town will try as best as possible to provide updates on our Town website at If you have any questions, you can call the Waterford DOT garage at 860-443-1617 as this is a State DOT and not a town project.
