Enable captions on a Windows 10 or successor PC

To turn on captioning (Live Captions) on Windows PC, follow these steps:

  1. ​Open Settings: Press Windows(Start) + I to open the Settings app.
  2. ​Navigate to Accessibility: Click on Accessibility in the left sidebar.
  3. Select Captions: Click on Captions.
  4. Turn on Live Captions: Toggle the switch to turn on Live Captions.

​Alternatively, you can use a quick shortcut:

  • Press Windows(Start) + Ctrl + L to open the Live Captions window directly.
  • Click the Settings icon (Gear) to change the location of the Live Caption window

Enable captions on an Apple Device

  • ​Click System Preferences from the Dock.
  • Click on Accessibility.
  • Scroll down and click on Captions.
  • Choose any of the four available subtitle styles.
  • Make sure you’ve checked the box for Prefer closed captions and SDH.​

Enable captions on an Android Device

  • ​Open your device’s Settings app.
  • Select Accessibility.
  • Look for the option labeled live captions, closed captions, or anything along those lines.
  • Toggle the On/Off switch to your preference.

Enable captions using the YouTube Player

​You can turn on captions while playing a video on YouTube by tapping the CC icon in the YouTube player. Sometimes, it will take several days after a video is published before the CC icon is enabled in the YouTube player.
