The East Lyme water system has long faced challenges with iron and manganese in its groundwater wells and distribution network. To address this issue, efforts to filter the remaining unfiltered wells began around 2015. A significant milestone was reached in 2021 when East Lyme brought Well 1A into treatment at the Well 6 Water Treatment Plant (WTP), leaving Well 2A as the last unfiltered well.
In August 2024, East Lyme made a substantial advancement by bringing the Bride Brook Centralized Treatment Plant online. The upgraded facility now includes Wells 2A, 3A, and 3B, marking a monumental achievement in improving both the quality and quantity of water for East Lyme residents. The project involved the installation of 3,500 feet of 10-inch ductile iron raw water transmission main to connect Well 2A to the Bride Brook Water Treatment Plant.
Additionally, significant building improvements were made to enhance energy efficiency. The project also included HVAC upgrades, new chemical feed systems, filter and pipe rehabilitation, and advanced controls/SCADA upgrades. These comprehensive upgrades ensure a more reliable and efficient water treatment process for the community.
