The Smith-Harris House opens in June for visitors for the summer season! Tours are every hour on the half-hour, starting at 12:30 pm; last tour at 3:30 pm. A 45-minute guided tour of the Greek-Revival farmhouse demonstrates the family and agricultrual lives of the Avery, Smith, and Harris families through the 1840s and into the mid-20th century! Just in time for Mother’s Day! Prepare your summer garden at the Friends of Smith-Harris House annual plant sale fundraiser! From blossoms to bulbs, this sale is sure to have everything you need to stay ‘in-bloom’ until the leaves fall! Annuals, perennials, hanging plants, and vegetable starters are just a few of the types of plants available, and all proceeds will benefit preservation and public programs at the Smith-Harris House. Is your thumb “heirloom green?” Then consider volunteering with the Smith-Harris House garden team, to help keep our historic-varietals garden at it’s best year-round! Open-House Museum Day

Enjoy historic games on the lawn, tours of the House, and historic-inspired refreshments. Also, meet and chat with Mrs. Elizabeth Avery Henderson, a setagenarian who lived with her brother, Thomas Avery, during the 1860s, portrayed by East Lyme’s own Maggi Prokop. Afternoon Honey Tea

1 pm to 3 pm, $15 per person
Inspired by William (Thomas’s son) Avery’s apiary business interests (four hives were listed as part of his estate), we’ll spend the afternoon with local apiarist Steve Dinsmore, President of the Connecticut Bee Association, have a honey tasting, enjoy a tour of the House, and make beeswax candles–after the delicious tea with honey-infused treats, of course! Come and enjoy the history of coolness on two wheels! View antique motocycles, then vote for your favorite to receive the People’s Choice Award! Tours of the house and music concerts included.
