Mandatory Water Conservation Measures Imposed for East Lyme

GO TO Production CHART

Water restrictions will be in effect each Friday from 9:00 a.m. through Monday noon until further notice.

The following restrictions will apply to all customers of the East Lyme Public Water System:

1)  Prohibiting the sprinkling, watering or irrigation of lawns.

2)  Prohibiting washing of motor vehicles, boats and trailers and the outdoor surfaces of all buildings and structures, sidewalks and driveways.

3)  Prohibiting the filling or cleaning of swimming and wading pools.

4)  Prohibiting the service of water to customers of public restaurants except at the specific request of customers.

Persons found violating any provision of the restrictions imposed by the Board of Selectmen shall be fined not more than ninety-nine dollars ($99.00). In the case of a continuing violation, each day’s continuance thereof shall be deemed to be a separate and distinct offense. These restrictions are effective Friday, July 25, 2008 and will remain in effect until further notice.

Harvesting Rainwater with Rain Barrels

Track the affects of conservation

These measures include, but are not limited to:

·    Minimizing or curtailing the filling of swimming pools.

·    Minimizing or curtailing outdoor water use such as the watering of lawns, gardens, and the use of in-ground sprinkler systems (leave grass long and only water lawns and gardens at night and not on a daily basis).

·    Minimize washing of cars and boats.  An alternative is to take them to a carwash, which recycles its water.

·    Check for leaks and make repairs as soon as possible.

Weekend conservation is especially important.

If we continue to experience insufficient rainfall, a Water Supply Emergency may be declared and mandatory water conservation required.  Mandatory water conservation measures include, but are not limited to:

·    Prohibition of sprinkling, watering or irrigation of lawns.

·    Prohibition of washing of motor vehicles, boats or trailers.

·    Prohibition of cleaning of outdoor surfaces of buildings or structures, sidewalks, driveways and other surfaces.

We again thank you for your continued efforts and cooperation during this inconvenience.  Please watch for further updates regarding the status of this water supply advisory on Channel 22 or visit the Town of East Lyme website.
