A REMINDER ABOUT RECYCLING

Recycling, which has been practiced in East Lyme since 1974, is also required by State law.  In light of this State law, taxpayers are reminded about the importance of recycling and how to comply.

How can I help as a taxpayer and citizen?

1.                  Please follow these suggestions for setting out your new container

2.                  Continue to recycle

3.                  Keep your container clean and do not over fill.  The lid must be able to close.

4.                  Have your container out by 7:00 a.m.

Container #1

¨   Glass & metal food and beverage containers

¨  #1 (PET) and #2 (HDPE) plastic bottles

¨   All cardboard and paper products except those soiled by food

The following items are recyclable at the 
Transfer Station 

   These items must never be thrown in the trash.

There is no charge to bring the following items to the transfer station:

·       Scrap Metal

·       Automobile Batteries

·       Waste Oil

·       Leaves

·       Antifreeze

·       Electronic equipment

·       Ni-Cad batteries

·       NiMh batteries

 

There is a charge for bringing the following items to the transfer station:

·       Oversize Items

·       Asphalt

·       Non-Reinforced Concrete

·       Tires

·       Demolition Debris (wood, sheet rock, shingles)

·       Brush

The Town’s Transfer Station is located on Roxbury Road.  Hours are Monday to Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Saturdays 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A windshield decal is no longer required for admittance. Proof of residency will be required at the Scale House. (i.e. Drivers License, Registration, etc.) No household waste is accepted at the Transfer Station.  Items that are accepted include:

1.      Recyclable items as described above.

2.      Brush. $40.00 per Ton. (Fees under $2.00 will be waived)

3.      Leaves (no plastic bags).

4.      Clean metal.

5.      Tires ($1.50 for passenger vehicle tires, fees vary for larger tires).

6.      Automotive and Marine batteries.

7.      Hearing aid batteries and nickel cadmium batteries.

8.      Used crankcase oil.

9.      Antifreeze.

10. Oversize items including construction and demolition. (There is a charge of $110.00 per ton for this material.)

11.    Freon containing appliances $10.00
