First H1N1 Clinics Announced

GROTON — Ledge Light Health District will start to vaccinate children ages 2 to 4 at H1N1 flu vaccine clinics starting Tuesday, October 20.  The clinics are open to residents of East Lyme, Groton, Ledyard, Lyme, Old Lyme, New London, North Stonington, Stonington and Waterford.

These clinics are for healthy non-asthmatic children between 2 and 4 years  old who cannot access the vaccine through other channels. Parents should first contact their child’s pediatrician to see if they will be offering the H1N1 Flu Vaccine.

Children with an allergy to eggs are unable to receive the vaccine, because egg proteins are used in manufacturing the vaccine. Children with asthma cannot receive this batch of the vaccine because it is given in a mist form into the nose. Also, if a child has had any intranasal vaccine, that is a vaccine delivered in a mist form into the nose (seasonal or H1N1), within the last 30 days they cannot receive this vaccine.

Pre-registration is required due to the limited supply of vaccine   available. Parents can pre-register at Ledge Light’s web site (www.ledgelighthd.org) or by calling 860-448-4883, option 2.

More H1N1 clinics will be announced as more vaccine becomes available.
