A building permit is required to install a wood stove, pellet stove, fireplace insert or any other heating appliance.  Obtaining a permit is the responsibility of the property owner, however, a contractor may apply on their behalf.

Information needed to obtain the permit include the property owners name and address, the contractors name, address, license or registration number, and worker’s compensation certificate (or waiver), and the manufacturer’s specifications and installation instructions for the appliance and venting system to be installed.  Note that if an existing chimney is to be used, a record of a recent cleaning and inspection is also required.

Please see Building Permit Value and Fees on the Building Department Informational Handouts page for fee information.
