Help Us Update Our Emergency Alert System

E-mail Print

On September 1, 2009, Connecticut became the first state in the nation to have a statewide emergency notification system. CT Alert ENS allows state and local officials to help protect lives and property by providing critical information to residents during emergencies, including dangerous situations.

CT Alert ENS is managed by the State Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection.

Are you ready for a Hurricane?

East Lyme Public Safety

wants to know:

Did you have everything you needed during the last big storm?

Hurricane season started on June 1st!

Make sure you are prepared!

Stores sell out quickly when a big storm is heading our way...
Pick up one item every week for your emergency kit.
It's easier on the wallet, and you'll be ready!
Don't wait until it's to late!

Items you should have in your kit are:
(Remember, if a storm is large enough, you may need to evacuate)
  • Three days worth of water and non-perishable food for each family member (nothing that needs to be refridgerated)
  • A battery operated radio
  • First aid kit
  • Manual can opener
  • Extra batteries (having an extra cell phone battery fully charged and in your kit may be a life saver if the power is out for days!)
  • Personal Hygiene items
  • Necessary Medications
  • Important papers (in a water tight bag)
  • Moist wipes
  • Toilet paper
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Plenty of books and games for the kids
  • Extra clothing
  • Food for your animals
  • Cash
Remember:  If the power goes out, things we take for granted like ATM machines and Gas pumps will not be working.  Make sure your vehicle is filled with gas.

East Lyme Public Safety is on

During any major weather event where the Emergency Operations Center has been activated, , you can use your smart phone to check in with East Lyme Public Safety for the latest updates on conditions.  Another great reason to have an extra battery fully charged and ready to go!  Make a point to check it out.  We are always posting important safety tips and recalls in an effort to keep you and your family safe.  You don't even need to have a facebook account.  Just search for East Lyme Public Safety Facebook, click on the link and it will bring you right to our page.
